In Napoleon Hill’s book, “Think and Grow Rich,” he portrays the idea that many successful people have achieved what they want by creating a powerful vision in their mind that they are exactly what they want to be. Since the mind has difficulties differentiating between something that’s made up and a real memory, you can trick it into making a idea a reality.
Or at least, that the gist of what I walked away with when I read the book.
In a sense, I get what he means because I can recall two distinct events in my life where I have wanted something so bad that I fantasized about it to the point where it did become a reality for me.
It is also said that if you have practical experience for a theory, it becomes easier to repeat with success the second time or subsequent times around. Therefore with those two life experiences under my belt, I have the experience, the knowledge and the ability to achieve anything else that I want in life.
So how can I apply what I’ve read and what I’ve learned through experience to get the best and quickest results for my future goals?
Some time back a heard about a prospective study performed on a group of University graduates. They asked each person to write about where they want to be ten years from that point in time. If I recall correctly, only 3% of the group had a very clear vision of their goals and they outlined in detail with timelines what they wanted to achieve with defined deadlines. Ten years later, that same 3% had achieved everything they said they wanted to achieve. This 3% had achieved more than the remaining 97% put together.
My take home message: it’s not good enough to know what you want, but the more detail you can add to it, the better…
