They say you should involve your partner (if you have one) in your goal planning, so I started talking to the hubby about my desire to start investing. I suppose it came as a shock to him given that I’ve never been interested in anything other than rock climbing, writing, and most recently, my baby. I’m also willing to wager that he wasn’t really taking me seriously when I first broached the topic with him.
I’ve never been one to read the newspapers or watch the news on TV. I’m probably quite ignorant when it comes to current affairs. In fact, I’ve often scoff at the news because it’s often about the idiotic things that the government does which I don’t agree with but can’t do anything about. The hubby told me off stating that perhaps it was time I started getting “clued-in” on what was happening if I wanted to know about the world of finance and business.
Well, I’m still not interested in current affairs but I will read the papers if it will help me get to where I want to go…
So what did I read about in the newspapers yesterday? Here’s a summary of some of the articles I remember glancing through… Please take not that these are my own personal interpretations of what I read. Feel free to correct me in the errors of my thoughts and explain to me why I should listen to you.
Some idiot of a minister in Kelantan made another stupid remark about how women who did not dress appropriately were only asking to be disrespected. There were a series of articles circulating this topic including the thoughts of women on the compulsory wearing of the “tudung”.
An Indian man died of diabetic complications and the Christian church has been trying to claim his body for burial. The issue behind this was because he had married a Muslim woman some years back, which meant he had to convert to Islam. His family claims that in the years before his death, he reaffirmed his faith in Christianity so now there’s a legal battle for his body and who gets the right to bury it.
There was also an article about the company that was awarded the contract to build that unnecessary second bridge to Penang, stating that this company was chosen because it was the best one equipped to take on such a large and complicated project. Yup, sounds like they greased the right palms in the process…
The Health Minister warned against the online purchase of medications because of the probability of fake products out there. The concern was mostly on the lifestyle products, like weight loss stuff and Viagra-type drugs. To date there have been no complaints of being cheated but the sentiments were that Malaysians generally don’t complain even when they are cheated because they are not the kind to complain.
I was thinking more like they were embarrassed to complain. I mean, think about it… A man comes to consumer affairs to lodge a complaint for buying a drug that didn’t work. He would have to include what product he bought. Somehow I think he might be a little embarrassed to say that he bought Viagra…
I read a few other articles, but they seem to elude me currently. So I remembered four articles… That’s not too bad for a first read of the papers, I guess.
